March 28th 2008 – The Great Texas GI Joe Show IV Show News Update.

G.I. JOE INVADES TEXAS!
The Great Texas GI Joe Show IV is over!.

Over a thousand fans of  America’s  favorite  fighting  man G.I. Joe descended on the
Arlington Convention Center in  Arlington Texas this March 15th  and  16th. The
weather was cool and sunny and almost two hundred door prizes were awarded to
lucky convention goers.  The  more  than   70   dealer  tables  offered just about
everything imaginable from three and three quarter scale up to one sixth scale
including figures, accessories and vehicles. Vintage Joe - related  merchandise  was
readily available at decent prices along with lots of Timeless collection and
reproductions.  Boxed figures, loose items and custom stuff was everywhere.
Check out these highlights:

John Russell of
ALOYSHAS CORNER gave two seminars on resin casting and
displayed some eye popping three and three quarter scale figures that are not to be
forgotten!

Two One Sixth Scale Photography seminars were held by Bobby Dalto (Commercial
Photographer) of
WAR STRUCTURES. Bobby's one sixth scale dioramas and photo
shoots are legendary and he did not disappoint.

The MYSTERY VEHICLE was unveiled. It is a full one sixth scale Gemini Capsule
with skirting produced by
TRUE SCALE ARMOR. This baby comes with Nose Cone
Assembly, Skirting, full Exterior Detailing, Opening Doors with transparent View
Ports and a fully detailed interior. Seats two one sixth scale Astronauts comfortably.
There are a couple of photos of it but they don't do it justice. This is the only one of
its kind in the world.

Tim Loeb of
PLASTIC PANZERS fame brought his new one sixth scale M113 Armored
Personnel Carrier. This beast is a beauty and comes with plenty of detail and internal
access. Still under production but a must have for all Vietnam buffs out there.

The
TANK RODEO as usual was a complete and total blast for kids of all ages. This
year in addition to the tanks, we had four wheelers with 1:6th scale riders. The
ZIP
LINE
was twice as tall as last years show. Joe was able to blast down the line and
smash into the building below at twice his normal speed. (Still a few bugs in the
system.)

The
FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION HISTORICAL SOCIETY was present for both days as
well as a rep from the
TEXAS MILITARY HISTORICAL SOCIETY. Both of these guys
had a wonderful display of REAL weapons and gear used in WWII including some
esoteric items.

Local film crews and reporters were bumping into each all over the place. The show
made a host of local print and video outlets AND we got on
FOX,  CNN and the
PENTAGON CHANNEL!  BOOYAH! Talk about your fair and balanced coverage!

The
CUSTOM VEHICLE CONTEST was taken by a couple of the neatest entries ever
seen. First prize went to a 21st Century Little Bird that had been sculpted into an
incredible version of a
Vietnam OH-6A Little Bird Helicopter complete with Pilot,
Door Gunner and fully detailed Cockpit.  The exterior paint and detailing was just
awesome and incredibly life like.

Second place went to a 21st Century Schwimwaggen that had been updated into a
modern Adventur Team transport called the
AM-CAT II. Painted AT yellow with the
correct AT decals, it was a really nice piece and made a righteous AT vehicle.

The
CUSTOM FIGURE CONTEST was tough to judge according to our Judge, Master
Modeller Jim Funk of Houston Texas. Jim has created some of the most life like
figures and vehicles in 1:6th scale ever seen. So when he says the contest had
some of the neatest entries ever seen that is indeed high praise. First prize went to
Joe De Santos for his 1:6th scale
Vietnam Australian Army Training Team 1969. Lots
of attention to detail, custom gear and excellent weathering.
Second Place
went to Thomas Moore for his 1:6th scale M10 Tank Destroyer
Crewman 1944
. Lots of attention to detail and weathering.

And a special mention went to Burt Montague for his
CAVE JOES! Didn't really have
a category for these guys but they were way too cool not to mention.

And there was a lot more, but you had to be there to
experience it! So see you next year!  - OZ
